Virtually every individual that was asked in a recent survey said that a smile was a very important social asset. People who want to preserve their smile and keep this social asset need to do two things, reverse gum disease and treat problems that may arise as a result of untreated gum disease.

Early detection is the key to being able to reverse gum disease. Many Kansas city gum disease experts are unsure exactly what factors contribute to gum disease causes, but they do know there are several ways that it can be prevented and reversed.

People may be able to reverse gum disease by simply replacing their toothbrush on a regular basis. The bristles on a toothbrush can be a great place for bacteria to live. These bacteria can be a direct cause of gum disease in many patients, which is why a Kansas City emergency dentist will recommend that people replace their toothbrush at least every three months or after an illness.

Other ways to reverse gum disease can include seeking regular exams from a family dentist, treating cavities and other tooth problems immediately, and brushing and flossing on a regular basis as recommended. These activities are great ways to reverse gum disease or work to treat gum disease.

If gum disease is not treated it can result in numerous dental problems. These dental problems can range from damage to the tooth, teeth falling out, and even loose teeth. The way to treat these problems from gum disease can be costly and extremely painful. Some examples of dental treatments that have been directly linked to problems from gum disease include dental implants, which are titanium rods that have been surgically implanted in the jaw, and root canals.

Patients that do not want to have to undergo any painful, time consuming, and costly dental procedures will want to work with their Kansas City root canal expert to come up with suggestions on how to reverse gum disease.
