Did you know that the official birthday of jeans is May 20th, 1873, when Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss first patented the riveted jeans? However, jeans were, at first, worn only by cowboys, farmers and other manual laborers, primarily in the Western states. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1950s that they entered the American subculture, and then the mainstream. Jeans continued to grow in popularity, taking of considerably during the 80s. During the decade, sales of jeans increased on average 10 percent each year. And of course, the jean continues to evolve. In 2011, the term “jeggings,” a jeans and leggings hybrid, entered into the 12th edition of Concise Oxford English Dictionary.
Though today the average American woman wears a size 12 jean, there is a jean type for every body. Slim fit jeans for women can be especially flattering. However, there are numerous different kinds of jeans. For example, ankle jeans, bling jeans, boyfriend jeans, slim fit jeans for women, coated jeans, colored jeans, embellished jeans, embroidered jeans, glitzy jeans, heavy stitch jeans, metallic jeans, printed jeans, rhinestone jeans, etc. As you can see, the list goes on and on.
